"Masters in Dialogue"
Composed in 1781, this Haydn string quartet earned its nickname from the clever tricks Haydn plays in the final movement — full of false endings and comic pauses that keep listeners guessing. Light-hearted yet sophisticated, it reflects Haydn’s playful spirit and his groundbreaking role in shaping the string quartet genre.
Brahms’s Piano Quintet stands as one of the towering achievements of 19th-century chamber music. Combining stormy drama with lyrical warmth, the piece balances the rich sonority of a string quartet with the power of the piano. It’s a deeply expressive work that moves between intensity and introspection, showcasing Brahms’s mature musical voice.
